Donald Trump is a threat to the security of the United States.
Both in rhetoric and in reality, he is putting us all at risk.
When he stokes racial and religious fears, he ramps up tensions and makes us all more vulnerable to violence. When he scapegoats immigrants and communities of color, he paints targets on the backs of the most vulnerable. When he threatens to crack down on rights and liberties, he hands global terror groups ready-made recruitment propaganda and eliminates the possibility of peaceful solutions. And when he bows to white supremacists and refuses to condemn mass violence perpetrated by white attackers, he emboldens extremists and paves the way for more violence.
Trump’s words aren’t just knee-jerk tweets and off-the-cuff remarks. They are statements that translate into policy at the highest levels of government, with disastrous results. The #TrumpThreatLevel is unconscionably high.
Stop Trump from ripping up the tools that keep us out of conflict.

When the United States leads with strong diplomacy, as a force for international development and human rights, we are much less likely to get into new wars. Trump has already tried to gut the State Department and has failed to appoint qualified diplomats in key positions to carry the delicate relationships we hold with other countries. What’s worse, he blew up the Iran nuclear deal—the signature foreign policy achievement of the Obama administration and the thing that’s standing in the way of a new war with Iran.
Stop Trump from violating rights and liberties under the guise of “security.”

Trump has told us multiple times that he’s a fan of using torture (which is a crime), and promised to “load Guantanamo up” with “bad dudes.” He’s already tried to ban Muslims from traveling in the United States and indicated during his campaign that he might be open to creating a registry of American Muslims. Bad foreign policy quickly finds itself taking root at home, too—it affects us all.
Our Priorities
We know that Trump will continue to make us less safe if we don’t resist his dangerous national security and foreign policies.
As Congress and the American public have slowly allowed the White House to gain more and more unchecked power over the last few years, it means that sacred progressive values—like privacy, inclusion, global peace and human rights—have eroded. This problem became a full-blown crisis in January 2017, when Donald Trump became president and the massive national security apparatus fell into his lap. He has made clear both through rhetoric and reality that he is unstable, reckless, and cannot be counted upon as Commander-in-Chief.
Indivisible is ready for this fight. As progressives, there are a few principles guiding us.

Four Ways to Resist the Trump Threat Level
Especially under this Commander-in-Chief, there is no purely military solution that can solve our problems, eradicate terrorism, or shore up our security. In fact, when the U.S. leads with military force, we often make things worse by emboldening extremists, endangering already-vulnerable civilians or further de-stabilizing volatile situations.
Stop Trump from accelerating or starting new wars.

Trump is threatening to abuse his power by declaring a national emergency to go around Congress and get his way on the wall.
Stop Trump from smashing the norms of our democracy.

The intelligence community has asserted that Russia attempted to interfere in our 2016 presidential election, and Special Counsel Robert Mueller is tasked with investigating the Trump campaign's potential involvement in that interference. Instead of taking this seriously, Trump has taken steps to obstruct justice, and has wounded the checks and balances that create the foundation of our democracy. We the people - and those who represent us in Congress - must act to protect our democracy.
